When people talk about Minami in Yaletown (1118 Mainland Street Vancouver, B.C.) (or their sister restaurant Miku), there is no doubt that their aburi sushi is a must order. For people who haven't heard or been to Minami, it is more of a fusion style Japanese restaurant known for their aburi sushi (flamed seared sushi). Recently, I visited Minami again with a friend visiting from Toronto, and I absolutely loved their new dessert: Soy Berry Verrine.
The Soy Berry Verrine came in a big glass bowl with the strawberry sauce on the side. It tasted very much like panna cotta, but softer. Quoting from their menu, it is composed of soy milk panna cotta, raspberry gelee, candied pecans, sweet crouton, and black pepper-strawberry coulis. I love dessert and sweets, but I cannot tolarate anything that's too too sweet (usually most macarons are too sweet for me). This Soy Berry Verrine was perfect. To eat it, you pour the strawberry sauce over. It was not too sweet and everything blended very well together. It wa so good I accidently had most of it and left very little for my friend...oops.
Of course, we also had their aburi sushi, the Salmon Oshi Sushi (a must for me everytime), Albacore Tuna and Kaiso Seaweed Tartare, and their Spring special the Sakura Roll (and also a half order of the Minami Roll at the end cause someone was not full yet ^^||). I would say their aburi sushi was still my favorite, but I must give credit to the tuna tartare as well. It was beautifully presented and the lotus root chips and the seasame ponzu vinaigrette they used was quite good! The Sakura Roll on the other had, was good but I didn't find anything special (I would rather have another order of the aburi sushi).

Overall, loved the ambiance, loved the food. We had a wonderful time at Minami. There are a lot of other restaurants making the aburi sushi in Vancouver now (and for a cheaper price). However, I would say Minami still makes one of the best aburi sushi. It's definitely a restaurant worth visit in Vancouver, BC.
Love,
Emily
